Gift giving is my love language. If I want to express my appreciation for someone, it’s most often with a meaningful gift or thoughtful gesture. As a result, I am always on the hunt for unique finds or listening out for favorite things mentioned. Then, I add them to my list for loved ones, friends, and client gifts to purchase at the right time.
Whether you’re a gift giver like me or not, I think as business owners, we all share the joy of giving gifts to our clients. We understand the importance of nurturing those relationships, and we want to express our gratitude. We’re usually not questioning whether to give, but rather what to give our clients. I know it can be tricky, and there is pressure to get it right because these relationships do matter. To make it easier, I’ve put together 4 tips to help you go beyond the usual and nail the client gift experience.
While I have yet to post a video on Instagram (I know, I know), I must say, Instagram is on to something. Video captures your client’s attention. It is engaging, triggers an emotion, and fosters connection. That’s why I think it’s perfect for e-gifting. Sending clients a virtual gift card with a personal video message from you adds a heartfelt touch to the experience. It will be remembered long after the moment as well. Many online businesses offer this option, including Amazon (you can also add a link to your recommended or ideas list to the email!).
The “me” in “them” is backward for a reason. Okay, maybe not 100% accurate, but follow me here. When looking to curate custom gifts for clients, it’s better to exclude your logo on gift items. Instead, add a relevant quote or phrase that will resonate with your client, and save logo additions for the packaging and note card. There is a greater chance that your gift will be used or become a staple when it is meaningful to the person receiving it. Don’t worry, they will think of you whenever they see it or put it to use. Knowing that you took the time to focus on them will always be remembered.
Use the service you’re providing your clients as inspiration for gifting. For example, if you are a Brand and/or Web Designer, you can gift clients a social media template bundle to show off their new brand. If you’re a Coach, consider a lovely printed note card highlighting your client’s wins, and include it in a book you’ve selected that helps inspire them to reach their next milestone. Think of items that complement the service you provided your clients and can further support them.
As I mentioned earlier, we want to go beyond the usual when sending client gifts. In addition, we all enjoy a little element of surprise. That’s also true for your clients. The excitement level is just not the same if they already saw the gift posted online. When curating gifts for them, make sure at least one item is personalized. Follow your clients on social media to see what they enjoy or make a note of something they mention to you in a conversation. It could be as simple as their favorite color or crafted cocktail that helps you select the perfect gift for them. The extra effort will elevate the experience for your clients.
I hope these tips come in handy as you’re putting welcome, holiday, or thank you gifts together for your clients. Gifting plays a key role in achieving a stellar client experience. It increases client loyalty, trust, and overall satisfaction with your business. It’s why my Dubsado Setup and Design clients receive a custom Client Gift Guide with gifting ideas specific to their business and clients. Providing that level of customer service really goes a long way.
